Vowel pairs can be a hard thing for new readers to master. Use these free printable vowel team charts to help them practice reading common vowel pairs!
Vowel teams are two vowels that are found next to each other in a word and work together to form one vowel sound, usually the long vowel sound.
This can be remembered by the following rhyme: When 2 vowels go out walking, the first one does the talking.
This means that when the 2 vowels are together the first vowel says its name. For example, in the “ai” team the long a sound is said.
Teaching students to recognize these common spelling patterns and the sounds they make will help them master key reading much faster.
