Many kids bought cards but at my house, we made them.

It was a fun day of construction paper and glue as 20+ heart shaped valentine’s were crafted.

And it was so fun to hand out my handmade valentine’s to my classmates!

How to Make a Paper Heart Shaped Fox Valentine

Animals are one of my favorite ways to make Valentine’s, and here’s an easy heart shaped valentine that’s quick and easy to make!

Here’s the supplies you will need:

Depending on the age of the child you are working with, you can pre-cut your pieces or help them cut them out themselves.

small and large orange, while, and black paper hearts

From the construction paper cut the following:

  • One large orange heart
  • 2 small orange hearts
  • 2 small white hearts (a little smaller than the ones above)
  • 2 medium-small white hearts
  • 3 small black hearts

Now it’s time to assemble all the pieces!

The large orange heart is the fox’s head. Place it pointed side down on your work space.

Glue the smaller orange hearts pointed side up on top of the large heart. One on each “hump” of the heart, These are the outer ears.

Glue the smaller white hearts inside the orange ones. These are the inner ears.

The medium-small white hearts are the fox’s mask. Place them in the center of the face, pointed sides facing each other as shown in the pictures.

Glue 2 of the smaller black hearts inside the mask, in the same position.

The final black heart is the nose. Glue it, pointed side down, on the lower half of the head.

Now all that’s left is the eyes! Put your googly eyes in the center of the black hearts in the center of the head. You can use whatever size you have on hand. We have a large multi-pack of self adhesive googly eyes that we use for all sorts of projects.

If you want you can add a mouth and whiskers using the black crayon.

And that’s it! An adorable Heart Shaped Fox Valentine! You can make a whole family to pass out to classmates or friends on Valentine’s day or keep them all to yourself!

Got extra paper? Here’s what to do:

Don’t toss out all that scrap paper! Use these ideas instead:

  • Use it for cutting practice!
  • Fill up a scarp box- and be sure to check there before grabbing a new piece on your next project
  • Cut more hearts (or other shapes)! You never know when you might need paper shapes for a craft!

I love cutting a million hearts out of the paper scraps. It reduces waste and it also encourages my kids to use their own imaginations and come up with their own paper heart valentine creations!
