Little pig, little pig, let me in! We all know the story of the 3 little pigs, right? Today’s the story of the 3 little egg carton pigs!

Sometimes it’s fun to bring a story to life and to get messy creating. Today we made 3 little pigs out of an egg carton! And it was a lot of fun. I let my kids take the lead on how and what they wanted the pigs to look like, using supplies we already had on hand.

(Though I did make an executive decision to veto the use of an orange pipe cleaner as a tail when we realized we were out of pink!)

How to Make a Pig Out of an Egg Carton!

Age range: 2+

Supplies: Egg carton, paints, brushes, glue, googly eyes, pink paper, optional: pink pipe cleaner.

To make one egg carton pig you will need 2 cups from a cardboard egg carton. Cut them out and trim them so the edges are pretty neat.

This may be a job for an adult or older child- they were challenging to cut.

Next get out your paints and brushes. We didn’t have pink paint, but making pink paint is a learning experience too!

Paint the entire surface of your cups and set them aside to dry. Or don’t. Sometimes we all get impatient to get on with the craft. But some drying time will help the glue stick better.

While you are waiting for the paint to dry you can go ahead and get the rest of the pieces ready.

You will need to cut 2 triangle ears and a round snout from pink paper. You will also need 2 googly eyes and a pink pipe cleaner for a tail.

Or, if you find yourself without a pink pipe cleaner, you can use a thin strip of paper, curled with scissors like ribbon.

Glue the 2 sides of the cartons together to make a ball shaped body. We used hot glue because we just got new glue sticks after being out for a really long time. White glue works fine too.

Then glue the ears, snout, eyes and tail on.

Then set it aside to dry. If you used white glue, you will have to wait longer. Hot glue dries pretty quick.

Then set your 3 little egg carton pigs together. Or build them a house out of blocks (or sticks. or straw)

Then I’ll huff and I’ll puff and I’ll blow your house down! (but don’t blow to hard or the pigs will roll right off the table!)
